Cairo, Egypt, Saturday, March 10

Scripture for the Day…
Genesis 46:2-3 (NIV)
And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, "Jacob! Jacob!"
"Here I am," he replied.
"I am God, the God of your father," he said. "Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.

Egypt is the land where God formed His people into a nation. It is the land of Joseph whom God made 2nd only to Pharaoh. And it is the land of Moses and Ramses II. We are expecting this land where God has done such great things to come to life today.

I’m sitting on the bus after walking around the Pyramids. They are right on the edge of the city, closer than I had imagined. We could see the Pyramids in distance rising above the desert. Our tour guide, Max, really knows his stuff. He is a walking history book of ancient Egypt. The Pyramids tower 60+ meters into the sky and make for a stunning view with the city of Cairo in the background. One thing I learned is the kings stopped building pyramids, which are gigantic tombs, because they became markers for grave robbers in ancient times. Later Egyptian Pharaohs had tombs hewn out of limestone rock and hidden from public view.
